Espryo exists to help you make better espresso at home without wasting money. Every guide answers one question: should you keep what you have, adjust how you use it, or upgrade?
How we decide the verdict
Every guide ends with one of three answers. These are the rules behind them:
- Keep when your gear isn’t the problem. Many bad shots come from stale beans, the grind, the dose or an overdue descale, not from the machine itself.
- Adjust when a setting, a change in routine or a small accessory solves it, and the maker’s manual or another trusted source backs that up. We name the one change to try first.
- Upgrade only when the gear itself is the limit. That means a manual or specification shows it can’t do the job, such as a grinder that can’t grind fine enough for espresso or a basket size with no accessories that fit.
We start with your problem, not with a product. If the honest answer is “you don’t need to buy anything”, that’s the answer you’ll get.
How we research
For each guide we:
- Start from primary sources: manufacturer manuals, specification sheets, official compatibility lists and safety information.
- Check exact fit and compatibility: portafilter sizes, basket dimensions, grinder clearances and model years. Getting the details right matters more than a long product list.
- Compare real owner experience: common problems and long-term issues reported by owners, weighed with care and never presented as our own testing.
- Explain trade-offs, including who a product is not right for.
Tested or researched: we tell you which
We label how each recommendation was made:
- Tested by us: we have used the product ourselves. We show our own photos and say how we used it.
- Research-based: the recommendation comes from the sources above, not hands-on use.
We never claim to have tested something we haven’t.
Independence
Espryo earns money through affiliate links (see our Affiliate Disclosure). That never decides our verdicts. Brands and retailers don’t see or approve our guides before publication, and we don’t accept payment for reviews.
